Our IT Vision


"To utilise ICT throughout the school, curriculum, teaching and learning
in order to raise achievement"


There is currently better than a 1:2 ratio of computers to students. This is an excellent provision, well above national averages (1:4.3 source) and amongst the top in Independent Schools. We provide multiple timetabled slots for the explicit teaching of ICT, in addition to supplying ICT resources to support teaching and learning across the curriculum.

tour/tour_ict-1.jpg When attending Ilford School, you can expect the following IT provision from Year 1 to cover both the fundamentals of ICT use and to further enhance teaching and learning in the rest of the curriculum in a safe, secure computing environment:


  • Multiple Dedicated ICT laboratories
  • Computers in classrooms
  • Interactive whiteboards in all classes
  • Dancing Stage Equipment for PE
  • Content-filtered, monitored internet and computer access (Blocked Social Networking, Youtube etc)
  • Individual user accounts for access to IT
  • Computer based formative and summative testing directly linked to our curriculum
  • High quality web based resources to support learning
  • Access to in-school web applications, safe from external threats
  • Interactive Virtual Learning Environment for 24/7 access to learning

A computer laboratory is provided for the sole use of the foundation stage along with a variety of other IT appropriate to the age range such as Beebot floor turtles and role play equipment.


We believe that all pupils should be IT literate and that a wider computer education in addition to application training produces a more adaptable and mobile skillset.


All homework is added to our Virtual Learning Environment (See link on front page "Information") and every student from Year 1 upwards is provided with an individual account to access this out of school '24/7' learning tool.


This Virtual Learning Environment is further sophisticated in the Upper School, where courses detail the learning objectives and support links for the material being covered and also permit digital submission of work, individualised gradebooks to provide feedback and a host of collaborative tools for learning.


In addition to this we are currently testing on-demand digital parental reporting (in addition to termly printed reports) where parents can view current information on their child's attendance, behaviour and academic achievement.
