The Admissions Process
There are three main stages to the admissions process at Ilford School; registration, visit and assessment.
This process is designed to assist in ensuring that Ilford Grammar School or Ilford Preparatory School is the
best match for your child.
Before deciding to make an application, please take the time to read the information provided both on this website and in the prospectus to gain an overview of the aims and values of the school, which we hope will match your own. Registration Initial registration requires the completion of a registration form, which should be returned to the office along with an administration fee of £10. This registration form provides us with the details we require in order to proceed with your application. Cheques should be made payable to Ilford Preparatory School Ltd. Visit Following receipt of your registration form and fee, you will be scheduled for the earliest available open morning. These take place on Thursday (Grammar) and Friday mornings (Prep) from 9:45 and allow you to gain a feel for the ethos and running of the school. You will be able to see the classes, hall, computer laboratories, playground and library facilities available to your child during their progression through the school. Assessment Once you have visited the school, an assessment of your child will be arranged. This will allow us to identify any areas that need to be addressed, whether extra support is required, and if the child is able to cope with the work at the school. For the Grammar school, the assessment is also used as a selection tool; it is computer based and broadly assesses skills in English, Mathematics and Science. No specific preparation for the assessment is expected. The duration of tests is no more than 1 1/2 hours. Scholarships and Bursaries Scholarships and Bursaries are only awarded in the Grammar School. There are a limited number of scholarships which are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, determined by performance on our entrance test and contingent on continued academic success. Each Scholarship awards a 30% reduction on tuition fees. Bursaries are less common than scholarships, are determined on a case by case basis and are means tested. |
